The In Balance Ranch Academy, based on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and research-based relapse prevention models, is a high quality therapeutic boarding school for adolescent boys 13-17.5 years of age. In Balance Ranch Academy is located in beautiful Southern Arizona, less than an hour from Tucson. Mountain ranges serve as a backdrop to a peaceful, desert landscape that promotes self-reflection and serenity. Our ranch provides young men with an experiential program that inspires self-evaluation, interpersonal discovery, personal responsibility, excellence in all endeavors, life-changing values of service, and, most importantly, recovery from chemical dependency.
The In Balance Ranch Community is committed to assisting each student and his family in the journey of recovery, sobriety, and academic achievement. We endeavor to facilitate healing in the individual and in the family, equipping them with the necessary tools to live a healthy, productive and joyful life.

From One Parent to Another
Note: In Balance Ranch has received many wonderful notes and letters from the families of our students. The changes our students have gone through have a profound effect on the whole family.
This particular letter was sent to us but was addressed to all parents considering placing their son at In Balance Ranch Academy.
This past November we had the privilege of participating in our son’s graduation from In Balance Ranch Academy. It was a highly emotional and joyous event, the culmination of eleven months of healing for our son and the entire family. With our son at home for over two months now, I look back and realize how much the Family Weekends we attended at the Ranch contributed to our wonderful outcome. Winter, spring, summer, and fall…each weekend brought us new insights and strengthened our family bonds.
Our first Family Weekend took place in February. Like the air outside, our relationship with our son was quite chilly following the harrowing year that led to his placement at the Ranch. There was much trepidation as we entered the lodge that morning, but the warmth and support of the In Balance staff quickly put us at ease. As we jumped into the weekend’s activities—a combination of experiential and educational events—an amazing growth experience began to unfold.
